Abstract We run a series of experiments involving over 4,000 online participants and 10,000 school-aged youth. When individuals are asked to subjectively describe their performance on male-typed task relating math science, we find large gender gap in self-evaluations. This arises when self-evaluations provided potential employers, thus measure self-promotion, not driven by incentives promote. The proves be persistent as early the sixth grade.
